Shhhh! Don't wake the baby....
It's 8:30 am, Sunday morning and I've been up since 6:30 am playing with an all too awake baby. In the last 5 minutes, however, that baby got really, really sleepy and decided to go back to bed with Daddy. So...this gives me approximately 30-45 minutes of solitude.
I am not sure how it happens, or why for that matter, but time flies...when you're having fun, or have a 6 month old and work full-time. A week can pass like a blink of an eye and the weekends, well, they might as well not even exist.
My Uncle Tom came by for a visit Friday night and he brought steaks. Yummy rib-eyes to be exact. We grilled those up and ate them with some mashed potatoes and sauteed asparagus. It was a delicious impromptu meal and we had a great time visiting. Uncle Tom was a little disappointed though that Jackson went to bed so early. Jack loved Tom's hat. He just hung out with it on his head...no fussing, or messing with it. That kid cracks me up.
Yesterday we took Jackson up to his school to meet the one and only Santa Claus. This was exciting primarily for the adults in his life and I was a little curious as to how he would handle the whole thing. Apparently Santa was concerned too because when Robbie approached him with Jackson in hand, Santa suggested Robbie turn Jack so he couldn't look Santa directly in the face. Robbie, knowing his child, informed Santa all would be well. And it was. Jackson never really gave us a smile (it was his nap time) but he didn't freak out either. In Baby Having Land no crying is nearly equal to smiling. Another bonus was running into one of my co-workers who had her first baby (we call him The Ox) a couple of weeks after I had Jackson. There's something about being pregnant together with a friend - you definitely bond. Anyway, Ox's mommy and daddy were there checking out the daycare. They are signing Ox up for a couple of days a week. Danger and The Ox had their first play date about a month ago and today we are having our second one. Ox is Jackson's first official friend and now they will be in school together a couple of days a week. The Mommy's, of course, are very excited about all of this.
After meeting Mr. Claus we did some Christmas shopping then went home and put up the tree. We've lived here nearly 7 years and this is the first year I've decorated. It felt good. Jackson liked the tree the best when he was close enough to touch it. Next year is gonna be tricky.
Jackson continues to grow and ex
plore his world. We've attempted to let him try rice cereal and a little squash with very little success. And by success I mean no gagging and carrying on like I am feeding him poison. He is sitting nearly independently and has recently started doing this little rocking back and forth thing that is just too cute. We continue to find him fascinating and can't imagine life without him.
Times up. Baby's awake and we have a play date in 45 minutes. Oh, solitude, how I miss you so.
