Where to begin...
* the Pumpkin Patch
* Jackson's first Halloween
* a visit from Nana, Grumpa & Great Grandparents Hurst
* cousin Kate's untimely death and subsequent visit to OKC
* work
* daycare
* laundry
and now the holidays are officially upon us.
Oh, and if you haven't noticed the adorable picture of my child already, well, yes, that is our Jack holding his own bottle. Unbelievable. This kid just doesn't stop. Everyday he's all in our faces with something new. So much for documenting each milestone. It's almost as though he is child #2 or something.
Jackson is thriving in his new daycare and Ms. Dorothy his teacher is wonderful with the babies. You can tell she is genuinely happy to see them each day. Jackson seems pretty smitten with her as well. They have story time, jump in their jumperoos, make art projects and sing songs. He naps and eats well there and by the time he gets home in the evening he is exhausted.
Robbie is well. Working hard and playing hard. He bought an old Jawa scooter circa 1970's and has been tinkering with it in the evenings when he isn't working on freelance. He has a couple of relatively small repairs to make it run and then he will be praying for those nice winter days he can take it to work. He's thinking a sidecar for Jackson would be a nice addition.
So tonight I did something stupid. And by stupid I mean painful. And by painful I mean exercise. And now I am doing something even more stupid...I'm mentioning it here. I have these Friends who got the crazy notion they should get off the couch and start running by doing the Couch to 5K program. It's a jump start exercise program for those of us who love our couches and the amazing feeling of being perfectly lazy upon them. I have to say, I've been inspired and encouraged by their tenacity to complete the 9 week program. Mrs. Nelson is even participating in OKC's Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. She will run her first 3K.
Have I mentioned I work daily with two Adorably Fit Nutritionists? Yeah, I know. They are just SO supportive. (Yes, there's a tone there.) They are faithful with their smart meal choices and daily exercise. And then there's me. My name is Catie and if my foot was made of cake I would eat my foot. For real. But seriously, the AFT's are truly kind and supportive and help me understand BMI and lean muscle mass and blah, blah, blah. They also tell me when there's an office in the building having cake.
But I've digressed a bit. Long story short...I'm overweight, out of shape (except the round kind) and have a high BMI. I'm actually getting plenty of rest at night, but am exhausted throughout the day. I physically feel heavy in that jiggly, muffin top kind of way and generally just disgusted with feeling so crummy. (mmmmm crumbs)
So, I jumped on the C25K bandwagon, downloaded the 5K iPhone app and asked Robbie and Jack to join me for my first run. The idea is to ease yourself into running for a full 30 minutes or about 3K. The application on my phone tells me when to walk and when to run with an alarmingly loud and alarming alarm along with a woman sternly stating "Run Now." The first minute of running wasn't bad. This minute was followed by 90 seconds of walking and then 60 seconds of running, rinse and repeat. The total workout is about 30 minutes with warm up and cool down. Halfway through I starting crying and by the last two 60 second intervals of running I was feeling better about my decision. It's an epic tale Day 1 of Week 1. I can only imagine what Tuesday will bring.
I guess in some way, you knowing I am running - or at least trying to - will hopefully provide some incentive to not crash and burn in a most embarrassing way. Of course, that's never stopped me before...
