Almost as good as a kitten....almost...

Robbie and I spent a busy weekend in Oklahoma City seeing family, our baby, and visiting with Mom and Dad's brand new baby kittens, of which Robbie will not let me bring home. We also visited with Billy and Kim and our nieces Lily and Parker who happen to live right around the corner of a Dunkin' Donuts where they have the delightful Chocolate Creme Donut. Kansas City doesn't have a Dunkin' Donuts so it's been years since I've had one of these treats. They've always been my favorite and well, it's probably best I no longer have a direct way of getting my hands on this powder sugar-covered, chocolate icing filled, artery clogging concoction.

People like to ask, "So, Catie, what kinds of cravings have you had since becoming pregnant?" My reply has always been, "Nothing in particular - I just know it when I want it." Lately, it's been one of these donuts. Driving in our old neighborhood in OKC on our way to visit with the other Knights, I am quickly reminded - Oh! a Dunkin' Donuts, right there! I turn to Robbie and say, "Do NOT let me forget to stop there after we leave Billy and Kim's house." To which he replies, "I have a feeling you won't forget."

To make a long donut story short - they didn't have it. And the other Dunkin' Donuts a mile from the first one didn't have any either. These donuts are what I refer to as a Morning Donut. At any point during the day or night one can always get a glazed, a chocolate covered, heck even an apple fritter, but the chocolate creme...well, you have to get there early to get one of those 'cause once they're gone...well, you know. Maybe they're labor intensive or something...I will never know.

Anyway, I left my Donut Dream in the town where there seems to be a Dunkin' on every corner and returned to work and life and living without the chocolate creme. Robbie called me yesterday and informed me that he'd be working late (read: brewing beer at work) but that I needed to stop by Premier Studios after I got off of work to pick up a special surprise he had gotten for me. For some reason (and I am sure there's logic in it somewhere) I was convinced it was a kitten.

He let me in the building and we headed to his desk and then he grabbed a bag off of his desk, grinned largely and handed it to me. It was a Dunkin' Donuts bag with one solitary, delicious looking Chocolate Creme Donut tucked neatly inside peeking around that single piece of wax paper indicating to me sanitary donut handling. I stumbled for words, "Where'd you...how'd you...?" And then I knew....and I said, "Ryan." Robbie smiled and confirmed my suspicions. There does happen to be one Dunkin' Donuts in the Kansas City area, if you consider Lawrence "the area." It's still a 45 minute drive headed in the wrong direction and by no means a Stop-On-the-Way-Home kind of place. Apparently, Robbie placed a called Sunday evening to his beloved co-worker Ryan, who happens to live in Lawrence and passes by the Dunkin' Donuts on his way to work every morning. Robbie asked him for a favor and that favor was delivered to a mouth-watering pregnant Crazy today.

Unfortunately, I have a terrible cold. It started late Tuesday night and by the time I made it home Wednesday I was convinced of its' nastiness. I ate a bit of soup, drank a bunch of water, swallowed pills to keep me comfortable, but ate no donut. It's 1 am on April 2nd and I am waiting for the next round of pills to kick in and I think I might have found the perfect moment to indulge.

Food and kittens are big comforts of joy in my life and I am not afraid to admit it. It's all about balance, right? Hence the donut - not a kitten. Thanks Robbie for thinking of me. And Ryan...well...you have just opened Pandora's Donut Box.

Speaking of kittens, they are growing by leaps and bounds. The yellow kitten has still not made one sound. Maybe he can't get a word in around his sisters! He is so adorable, always the first to notice me and he loves to cuddle with me. I am trying to think of a cute name for him. I think he will be a keeper. I have an appointment for Abbie for the 28th of April, better get a kitten while you can!!! I think the white kittens are twins. They are starting to play but they are still wobbly. It is fun to watch them.

Take care of yourself and if you don't get better soon, see a doctor. Aunt Linda sees her doctor today and if he thinks she needs it will be giving her another weeks dose of antibiotics for the pneumonia. Be proactive!

Love, Mom
