And the award goes to Mother Nature...
Robbie and I attended the Addy Awards this year with a few of his co-workers. The theme was "The Maddy's" after the 1960's television series "Mad Men" about the advertising execs on Madison Avenue. The show has since been remade and current generations are reliving the sexist idea that only men had the brains and talent to accomplish the all too important job of selling people things they don't need.
Premier Studios was up for a couple of awards this year and Robbie worked many late nights to make sure those projects were great. Attending the Addy's was one of his rewards. To be recognized by the industry in which he works by talented designers he admires was an opportunity too good to pass up. We got all dolled up and, despite all the snow that fell Saturday, I wore a dress and a coat I could not button. We had a great time enjoying cocktails and appetizers before the awards show (I enjoyed a Shirley Temple) and catching up with old friends from the Barkley days and new friends from Premier. Ultimately, Premier did not take home with them the coveted Gold Award for their entries, but they did manage to bring in a Silver Award for a very fun e-Christmas card.
I am so proud of Robbie for many reasons. He loves what he does and has passion for his work. Despite losing a job a few years ago he holds his head up high and chooses not to avoid the very person who laid him off. Instead he seeks him out, shakes his hand and asks him how life and work is treating him. Robbie's a stand-up guy in an industry that can be oh, so very fickle. He had an encouraging word and hug for a friend who, just this last week, lost his job. Robbie is so much more than the party, perks and awards. He's made a lot of friends in this town doing the kind of work he was meant to do. It warms me to see him smile and congratulate them on their success, genuinely reveling in great design. You're golden all the way RK.
