October 13, 2008 - Pre-doctor
Today is our first doctor's appointment and I am excited and nervous and contemplating whether or not I should wear mascara. Chances are there will be crying no matter what happens.
I slept poorly last night, which is beginning to become my new norm, but I woke up with zero nausea. It's funny how something so yucky can almost become a comfort - 'cause I worry when I'm not on the verge of puking. Pregnancy is a strange, strange beast.

Well, so much for being 12 or 13 weeks pregnant! Turns out I am only 7, which means all the fun of morning sickness is just beginning. Oh joy. It also means another 5 weeks of worry.
Okay, so here's the great news...I have been Doctor Certified Pregnant (much to Robbie's relief) and there is a little (.97 cm to be exact) baby growing in my uterus AND we have a picture to prove it. Robbie was extremely excited to get this picture - I think it made it all a little more real for him.
Ironically, on our way to the doctor this morning my Mother called! Initially I missed her call, but when I called her back I half expected her to say, "So, I hear you're pregnant - the cafeteria lady told me!!!" I am suffering from immense guilt for not telling our OKC family and every time I talk to my Mom it requires great restraint from ruining the surprise. I am just not sure I can hold out for another three weeks!
Robbie's experience at the doctor's office today was a little different than mine. I was comfortable with the setting and expected a pelvic exam as well as a sonogram. My doctor was a bit late getting into the office and when she came into the exam room she said, "Sorry I am late, I just delivered a baby!" We said our hello's and I introduced her to Robbie. Later Robbie told me that as he put his hand out to shake hers all he could think was, "Ewwwww, she just delivered a baby!" Other than that and the wide-eyed look on his face after I had my pelvic exam, he did great. In fact, it was really nice to have him there. It felt officially like we had boarded this crazy train together and oh, this is going to be such an interesting journey.
All in all it was an easy trip to the doctor. I return in 4 weeks and in about 30 weeks, if all goes well, I have a baby. Oh...my...goodness. EDD June 1, 2009.
