Happy 'Birthday Week' To Me!

I am not entirely sure when the Birthday Week trend began in our home. I am certain it was all Robbie's idea, however, and it probably began sometime around his birthday.

Or maybe it was mine.

Either way...the Birthday Week has been a strong tradition upheld in the Knight household for the last number of years and we even have friends who have either a) adopted the tradition or b) attempted to adopt the tradition but lacked the enthusiasm (often by those whose birthday it is not) to keep it alive year-by-year.

Typically, the Birthday Week has been a tool utilized to prolong the all too short event ones' actual birth day inevitably becomes. It's great for those who work on their birthday's, or find the day of their actual birth lacked the overall excitement they originally felt it should relay.

Simply an opportunity to celebrate a little longer the event that made you you. Conception is fabulous, but Birth....now that's something to eat cake over.

Despite not being able to celebrate with my immediate family, my Birthday Week has been a good one. Lot's of eating with members of our surrogate family and Robbie even picked up an ice cream cake (no, those aren't croutons on the cake). Candles were lit and the Happy Birthday Song has been sung - a few times now. Emma Rose serenaded me with her own special version and let's face it people, there is nothing more sweet than a 2 year old wishing you a "Happy Birfday Catie".

The odd picture with the round light, Melissa, dog, Emma, and me has become one of my new favorite birthday pictures. Emma was taking a bath when I decided I wanted a piece of cake. Well, Melissa and Robbie were not about to let me cut my own cake and heaven forbid candles weren't lit and I wasn't sung to before we tucked ourselves into the ice cream! Of course, I know how much Emma loves a good group sing along and of course ice cream - I didn't want her to miss out. So we all headed up the stairs, lit cake and all. Melissa pulled Emms out of the tub and right there on the stairs of the Hendrick's home, with a dog precariously close to the cake, a bath soaked toddler and friends who have become family Happy Birthday was sung.

Tonight we did it all over again, only with a different meal and left over cake. Tomorrow is dinner at La Bodega and only after a birthday Sangria will I consider calling a finale to my Birthday Week.

By the way, thank you everyone who contributed to Birthday Week this year. My only wish is we could've all been together to celebrate.
