Now the fun part...

As much as I hate to move I love unpacking my stuff! I always have, even with moving so much as a kid. It's a little like Christmas, only many of the gifts were purchased long ago, are typically pretty used up and the packaging is not nearly as pretty. This move has afforded me more space, subsequently allowing me to unpack some boxes that have been packed since we moved to Kansas City, five years ago. Two of my favorite quilts have come out from hiding and various knick-knack type objects I love will once again add ambiance to my life. The best thing about opening these boxes, however, is the feeling of permanence it gives me.

Moving to Kansas City was a real challenge. We uprooted, left our families, sold the home we bought as newlyweds, changed jobs, changed lives. That first year was one of the most difficult for our marriage and forced us to become reliant solely upon ourselves and each other. We've moved three times in that five years and I was really beginning to worry we would never truly settle into life here.

For me, home has always been a place where I am surrounded by the people (in person and in pictures) and things I love. This week I have had a couple of days to organize our belongings, our pictures, our lives. As each box opens and each room finds order I realize there truly is no place like home.
