Oh goody!

I got two phone calls today. The first was from the Hospice House informing me there was still no hiring ticket, but reminding me I was still "wanted" and the second was an offer for a sure spot at the KU Cancer Center. At this point I've decided to allow the two great interviews, the "feel" of the place, and the flexibility and pay of the position to determine I will be one of KU 's newest employees.

After agreeing on the terms of employment I set out to complete the drug screen and physical, of which I will only share one detail. The physical required me to show how flexible I am physically and upon the exam the doctor noticed I had a hard time bending my back in certain positions. I explained to him that I had had corrective surgery for scoliosis when I was 12 and have two steel rods fused to my spine keeping it straight. He marveled at the scar and how remarkable my recovery and life post-back surgery has been pretty uneventful. (Doctor's get a kick out of stuff like this sometimes.) As the doc was completing my paperwork, clearing me of any limitations for the job I was being offered, he paused and looked at me and then said, "Well, I will include one limitation: no bending backwards." I chuckled because I couldn't possibly see why any job I might do at KU would require me to bend backwards, I mean I didn't think I was applying for the cancer center's resident acrobatic specialist, no, I was pretty sure it was office specialist. Well, anyway, he was serious and wrote next to Permanent Limitations: no bending backwards on my paperwork. I have a good feeling someone within HR will get a kick out of this one.

So I start orientation Monday which means I have two more days of unadulterated, unemployment freedom to do whatever I want in the middle of the day. I've finished one painting and started another. I might even recover the seats of my dining chairs. Who knows what craziness will ensue!

Thanks to everyone cheering me on, offering me leads for jobs and encouraging general optimism. I managed to keep Target and The Scrapbook Page sacred (Brent, don't you even) and avoided working on any weekends...which I loathe. Hooray for the trials of a job search and double hooray when they are over!
