Three cups of coffee later...

It's Monday and I am not at work. I took the day off to get ready for Back to School night, not that I really have much to get ready for. My first day teaching is next Monday, so I figure that gives me nearly one more week to continue procrastinating my To Do List.

Robbie and I practically spent the whole weekend reading Harry Potter books. Around the time the last book came out I decided I wanted to start reading them. Robbie kindly brought me home the first book and promptly read it for himself. To be fair, this was also around the time he was completely laid out and spending 90% of his day in bed. The poor guy needed something to do, other than feel incredibly sorry for himself. As of yesterday Robbie has started the final book and I am slowly working my way through book 4, The Goblet of Fire. Of course, in true Robbie fashion, the movies have magically appeared in our house as well, so when one book is finished, the corresponding movie is then watched. I have to say, this is a fun way to compare stories while they are still fresh in mind.

I cut the grass Saturday and hated every minute of it. It was miserably hot and much of what I cut was very dusty and dry. I was pleasantly surprised when Mrs. Nelson stopped by with a large Cherry Limeade from Sonic. Robbie "supervised" and spent most of his time watching me through the window with a big smile on his face. I ran over an already decomposing and very dead rabbit in the back yard and needed a few moments to get the nerve to continue, but other than that it was pretty uneventful. The yard is no longer on my worry list and I appreciate Mrs. Nelson offering the services of Mr. Nelson, but I have now proved that I am perfectly capable of starting and maneuvering a lawn mower, weed eater and hedge trimmer. Something I know Robbie will never forget.

Speaking of reasons I have had to do stuff I don't normally want to do...Robbie's back is showing some mild improvement. His flexibility is getting a wee bit better and his pain is being managed with over the counter meds and heat. He is doing three sessions of stretching exercises a day and attending physical therapy three times a week. The road to recovery is going to be a long one and Robbie is tired of taking medicine and feeling incapable of most things.

We are plugging along here and I am often not as grateful as I should be for the life I've so graciously been given. Thanks to friends and family for the emails, phone calls and encouraging Limeades.

Thank you for doing the yard work this weekend. You are awesome. By the way, I think it is time to mow again, what with all the recent rain.

A motto to live by:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Woo Hoo, what a ride"!

What we do in life is a choice...Some easy, some hard and some seem monumental and impossible but we still have choices.

Love you, Mom
