Poor Robbie...

What a week.
When I picked Robbie up from work on Monday he hobbled out to the car. He was slow, hunched over and his feet kinda dragged a little as he made his way towards me. I knew the drill.

Once again, Robbie's aching back was attacking him. Little did we know it would knock him out flat for four days. Seriously, other than for bathroom breaks and to get food from the kitchen Robbie has not been out of bed. So this means he's been living in the bedroom. The many water bottles, pill bottles and empty plates and bowls I've been coming home to are a testament to the pain he's been suffering.

Yesterday I was willing to pay any amount of money to make him better. The nurse at his doctor's office suggested we keep doing more of the same: heat, ice, rest, Ibuprofen. So frustrating. I needed to take action so on my way home from work I devised a plan. I would grab dinner, we would eat it and then I would load my husband into the Matrix and we would go directly to the ER.

We made it one block away from the house and Robbie begged me to pull over. He couldn't even sit for a few minutes in the car. He would have to lay flat. Fortunately for us, we drive a car in which the back seats and the front passenger seat fold down. We flattened everything we could and Robbie climbed in.

I hauled my husband to the ER like lumber. I so wish I had had the camera with me.

The ER was predictable, but at least Robbie's pain is now under control. I was thinking of those MasterCard commercials...

ER visit : $100 + 10%
Prescriptions: $65
Comfort snacks and the third Harry Potter book: $24
Watching the painful grimace on Robbie's face be replaced by a loopy smile: Priceless

When I came home this evening I found a very tired Robbie, still in bed, but comfortable. He mentioned those who called and checked in on him and that he thought he might be able to sit up long enough to eat dinner with me.

I miss my Robbie, but hopefully he is on the path to regaining the ability to be ornery.
