Art without a frame...

I came across this fascinating article.
Take the time. Read it. Watch the clips. Challenge yourself to notice.

Joshua Bell is one of the world's most gifted virtuosos. He has played his violin all over the world. He plays an Antonio Stradivari, hand-crafted in 1713 and reportedly cost Joshua $3.5 million......dollars, that is. It even has the original varnish...amazing. As an experiment he played this fine instrument in the L'Enfant Plaza station in Washington, D.C. He's dressed in jeans, t-shirt and a baseball cap. He opens the case (to his Stradivari!) and throws in a couple of dollars. He plays some of the most beautiful music in all the world.

I'd like to think I would have been one to stop and savor the magnificent sounds simmering in the station that morning. I am certain my Dad would've stopped to soak it in. I am also pretty sure Dad would've introduced himself, asked him to clarify the pieces being played that he didn't already recognize and then most likely would have offered to buy him a cup of coffee. I'd also be willing to bet Dad would have whistled those same tunes throughout the day, reliving such a brilliant moment that morning in the station on his way to work.

I'd like to think I would've stopped...even for just a moment to appreciate the gift.

What is this life, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
