Suhweet!

I got the news today that I will be the recipient of the Kansas City Elementary Teacher's Club Scholarship for next school year...my last two semesters of undergrad work. And to think I was this close to not applying. It feels good to be rewarded for the work I've done in the last three years.

When I was in high school I heard of those strange students who were going away to college "on scholarship." There were those who had some incredible athletic or musical ability and those who were just plain smarter than they should be and then there were the rest of us...the ones who barely got up in time to make it to first period, the ones who smoked three cigarettes before 8:15 am in the school parking lot, the ones who never, ever, seemed to have the right book, homework, or even a writing utensil for class and the ones who pretty much decided that 12:30 was a better time to end the school day then 3:15. Sadly I was one of those kids - but to all of the disheartened parents out there who are afraid of having a "child like me," well, there is some hope. For me it was college and being given the opportunity to do some of my own thinking.

So, for all of "us" out there who always seemed to make too much money to get "free money" for school, or who never had a school counselor even consider you "college material"...I share this reward with you. High school wasn't quite my thing, but I haven't allowed it to predict my future and today I got a letter in the mail that shows someone else has taken note. Yay me. Let me say it louder...YAY ME!

Hear ye not the hum Of mighty workings? Listen awhile ye nations, and be dumb - hear the proclamation and come forward to pay homage to my DAUGHTER, the TEACHER.
