Time to vacate...
The last, gone for a week, do something fun everyday, see something new, vacation Robbie and I took was a little over three years ago and it was a trip we took to New York City. During the interim we have camped our hearts out and talked about the places we would like to go and the things we would like to see. In the last few weeks a couple of really interesting things happened...
First, our good friends, the Hendricks', invited us to go to Mexico with them. The cost was really good and actually quite doable, unfotunately, the timing was a bit off, given my final exam schedule.
Second, my cousin Sarah and her husband Jason invited us to meet them in Destin, Florida for a long weekend where they are renting a condo on the beach. We just needed to get ourselves there.
Robbie and I hated missing out on Mexico and especially having a true, honest to goodness, vacation this year so when the Destin call came in we pounced like two fuzzy little kittens.
Have you seen the movie Elizabethtown? Well, it's one of my favorites for a million different reasons, but one of the more memorable parts of the movie involves really great music and a road trip. Robbie and I saw this movie in the theater not long after it came out...at least a couple of years ago...and we've been talking ever since about taking our own road trip, a la Elizabethtown.
So, instead of flying, we are gonna drive to Destin. Our route will be the following:
KC - St. Louis
St. Louis - Nashville
Nashville - Birmingham
Birmingham - Montgomery
Montgomery - Destin
I figure there is an abundance of things to see on our way and Robbie and I are planning on stopping to see the giant Superman statue in Metropolis, Illinois, The Hatch Print Shop in Nashville, the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and of course, the Flea Market Montgomery. (and if you are one of only the three people in the world who hasn't seen the Flea Market Montgomery commercial, stop what you're doing, right now and enjoy...you will not be disappointed...Hey, Hey!)
My question for you, dear reader, what's missing from this itinerary? Suggestions are wanted!
