I can live with this one...

The week before Robbie and I were to move into this house we saw it, for the first time, completely empty, during daylight hours... and I had a mini-meltdown.

It hadn't been cleaned, it smelled like cigarette smoke, the kitchen was much smaller than I had remembered and the bathroom...oh, the bathroom. Awful, ugly gray tile and an awful ugly gray paint on the walls to match the awful, ugly gray tile. Oh, and some of the tiles had this lovely floral print on them...truly hideous. The towel racks and toilet paper holders were mounted onto old pieces of wood and they were yucky and discolored and just gross.
Here's some pictures:
OK, I lied before....it was a full-scale meltdown. (Think of me what you will....I appreciate an updated and clean home, sue me.)

I spent the entire week thinking about what I could do to improve this bathroom situation. I am creative and capable of making a house a home. I really enjoy home improvement projects too...there had to be something...if only the Ballbuster would let me paint...

Our walk through with the Ballbuster (aka: the landlord) before moving in proved to be a fateful event. The bathroom had not been repainted and there were places where holes had been patched, but no new paint applied. I carefully mentioned this and asked as sweetly as possible (I call her Ballbuster for a reason) if she would allow me to paint the bathroom since it so obviously needed it. She said yes and Mom and I went to work. You know those paint cans sitting in home improvement stores that people returned for whatever reason? Well, I found practically an identical color of yellow that I had picked out for the bathroom on that counter and paid only $5 for the entire gallon of top brand paint. Score.

The new paint job made the room much more bright and not so drab, but the flowers on the tile were killing me. Really, they were......killing me, and not softly. I researched the insanely awesome internet for the magical fix and found a product called Wall Pops. They are amazing wall adhesives that can be used on any flat, vertical surface without damaging anything. Best of all they are completely reusable and replaceable. No glue, no sticky stuff, just peel and place and re-peel and re-place if you want, over and over again. Oh, and Lowes just happen to carry these little dreams in their store.....yeah, the Lowes down the street from my house!

A little measuring and cutting and an hour later I said goodbye to killer flowers and hello to black and white check. This is definitely a better bathroom. Next step...paint the sink vanity and mirror white. The paint has been purchased and I figure the Ballbuster will be amazed with my incredible gift!
