Two words: Chocolate Fountain...
Not too long ago Mrs. Nelson's best friend Laresa also moved to the Kansas City area from Oklahoma City (it is the thing to do, apparently) and she and I planned and safely executed one awesome couple's baby shower this last weekend. The poker buddies were there and a few of Lane's co-workers even made it out. It was a great time and even the guys participated in a dreaded Shower Game. Basically, everyone had to jot down one childhood memory and the host reads the memories out loud while the happy, baby-havin' couple tries to guess who the memory belongs to. Needless to say, this generated a lot of conversation and laughter, not to mention an opportunity to get to know people better. Here are the few I remember vividly:
* My sister and I tape recording our farts.
* Throwing a handful of Daddy Long Leg spiders on girls at camp.
* Singing "Luka" for the summer camp talent show and losing.
* Having Santa come for a visit at Christmas....a real Santa. (Sadly, Brian later found out it was one of his dad's friends - but he doesn't remember being scarred by the revelation.)
* Pooping in the woods and mom taking a picture of it.
* Sorry Dave, I will butcher this one...Visiting a capitol building in, was it Baltimore(?) and every hour a mechanical eagle perched on top of the building would flap its' wings. (I know it was mechanical, because I had to ask.)
Ah, childhood memories. They will either make you laugh later in life, or require therapy.
Thanks Laresa for making the party a success and especially for driving all the way back to Oklahoma and bringing back the chocolate fountain! Seriously, how did people live without these things?!
