If it's the day before Halloween that must mean...

it's my Dad's birthday! Happy Birthday Pops! I wanted so badly to have this posted this morning so you could refer to it off and on through out your day (ha) but even getting up at 5:45 this morning didn't make it happen. These days it seems the only things I get done on time are research papers. : )

I want so badly to be clever and witty - all of the things you appreciate in the written word - but unfortunately I just spent my day with 133 kids all of whom have officially memorized my name and enjoy saying it over and over and over again.
So, I will give your birthday greeting a shot...

You are the wind beneath my wings......no, not that....Hmmm. Oh, I know, you lift me up when I'm feeling down....yes, but, no, that won't do either. How about, you are my rock. OK, wow, even worse. Yes, this is it...

You're my Dad and I love your sense of humor, your taste in music, literature and lately, even wine. I am grateful for everytime you ever read to me, sang with me, and danced with me in the living room. I love it when you call me and say, "Can I offer you a little Fatherly Advice?" and then don't wait for me to answer. (Seriously, I do love that: ) I appreciate the sacrifices you've made and all of the attempts in your life to do what is noble and right. And for all of the other times - they are forgotten. Thank you for providing the support to Robbie and I that we need and deserve, and for providing the same support even when we don't need it and especially when we don't deserve it. I love you Dad and I hope for you as much as you do for me.

Thanks, Catie, for the kind words on this auspicious day. And it is especially fine that you have provided pictural evidence for all who visit your blog of just where you got your good looks.
