Who cares about twins...
So, I am suppose to be writing a paper right now about the high incidence of twinning that occurs within the Yoruba culture from Africa and how they oblige their twins-god by commissioning artists to make little twin statuettes called Ibeji for woman to carry around in place of a deceased twin.
But blogging seems like a better idea.
The really sad thing is that I am behind in school and have little energy to catch myself up. I'm not failing or anything silly like that - just behind in my reading, papers and studying. Oh, how quickly that early semester adrenaline and optimism fades. I swear it was gone within the first hours of school this semester and I've been pondering why.
Maybe it's because I am in, yet another, politically and racially charged classroom environment twice a week. Maybe it's because I already have a job teaching. Maybe it's because I am a little more than half way there and wish I could sprint to the finish line. Maybe I wish I could be doing something else. Maybe I am just a lazy butt.
I definitely think it's a grand composition of all of the above. If this were a multiple choice exam the answer would be "D".
For the last couple of days the Blue Angels have been flying around my apartment practicing for the air show that is occurring at the downtown airport this weekend. I told Robbie that the sounds remind me so much of when I lived on Air Force bases. At first I thought I was the only dork sticking my head out the window of my 8th story apartment straining and bending my neck so I could catch a glimpse or witness their fast and low maneuvers over the downtown skyline. But I am not. When the guy across the street from me waved I became envious of his binoculars and reminded myself to be sure the blinds were secure at night.
The weather this weekend would be perfect for an air show, and I would've loved to have gone - but I am packing my bag and saving my energy for a day with Miss Ems. I will be watching her all day Saturday and hope to take a nice pre-fall walk around the park with her, sing silly songs, chase her around and generally have a fun day. What a big kid she is becoming.
Her auntie and uncle from CA will be here in a little over a week and I am very excited for her and for me. It's always fun to have them in town and I am sure they are looking forward to a break from traffic, smog, Albertsons, and their ridiculous visits to the beach, of all places.
Back to the stupid paper.

Since you and Brent are basically twins when it comes to school, being behind probably means not being a week ahead.
I hope your day with Em went well. I heard she caught another cold which sucks.
I'm excited this time next week will be good times with you guys! I hope you have a peppier week.
