I received a surprise Fed Ex package yesterday! I know! Isn't that wonderful?! I LOVE to get mail....but not the kind with the pretend hand written lettering on the front, or anything with a return envelope. No, I would much rather receive a package with my name (Catie, not Catherine) on it in a familiar handwriting, and if I am lucky, some doodled hearts or flowers floating about on the envelope. Yes, I love to get mail.
My Aunt Linda sent me three books....three fabulous books.
Ish and the Dot were written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, an artist who was inspired by his teachers growing up. He wrote these books as a way to encourage the artist in all of us...and they are the sweetest stories. I am already plugging them into some lesson plans.
The book, 32 Third Graders, is written by Phillip Done and has witty, short chapters that cover the span of a typical school year. He shares his "life lessons from teaching" with the voice and heart of a teacher. I read it this morning and couldn't put it down. I would think this would be a great gift for any teacher. The next time you are at the book store take a moment to read the two books by Reynolds. It will be 5 of the best minutes you will have spent in the book store - except for the other 5 minutes you spent waiting for your Vanilla Latté. Thanks Aunt Linda...I can't wait to share Ish and the Dot with my students.
