It's definitely past my bedtime....
It's been a week since Robbie was laid off from Barkley. The pain has dulled, but the anticipation and anxiousness of what will happen next is, at times, quite overwhelming.
In the meantime we are maintaining our sense of humor and love for crappy, cheesy, gratuitously gory movies. Over the weekend we watched The Hills Have Eyes and The Omen. Both were stupid, silly and predictable - but entertaining nonetheless. We managed to drag our friend Mrs. Nelson to see The Omen Friday night. Her husband wanted to see it but she hates stupid, scary movies. The truly funny thing is that we always manage to out number her vote and she rarely gets to choose what we will see. I think she seriously considered boycotting ANY movie night with the Knight's after we managed to coerce her into seeing Saw 1 AND 2. Now it just seems like more fun making her go see a stupid, scary movie than actually watching the movie.
Tomorrow I will be going to Holy Name to inventory the art supplies. I am very excited because this means I get to make LISTS! I even spent some time this evening making customized inventory worksheets.....fun, fun, fun! Let's hope I teach art as well as I make lists.
Some of you know that I have recently become interested in scrapbooking....and before you roll your eyes let me share why. I love ephemera, pictures, journaling, fabric, ribbon, pretty much all things collage. When scrapbooking started a few years ago I was interested, but not necessarily in the way it was being done. I liked the idea of scrapbooking, but certainly not interested in plastering a 12x12 page with teddy bear stickers and cheesy quotes by Confucius. I started to think more and more about how I could incorporate a collage-like, Catie effect to my own books. I have made cards for years and decided that I could easily transfer the way I made cards into great, personalized scrapbooks. In the last couple of years scrapbooking has taken on a new, edgy, look and those who enjoy art supplies like paint, weaving and design have found a niche for scrapbooking. I have been inspired by Elsie Flannigan who's designs are right up my alley.
So, one of my new favorite things to do is to go to an all day crop (seriously, ALL day - 10 am - 11 pm) at my new favorite supply store the Scrapbook Page. Saturday I went with Mrs. Nelson and we talked and created until the store closed. I really needed the time to focus on something else. I am currently working on a book that illustrates and tells the story of how Robbie and I met, fell in love and got married. I have been saving pictures, and gobs of stuff from this time in our lives and have always wanted to put it all in one memory book for our future family. I have really enjoyed revisiting our past and all of the little moments that built up to the day we were engaged. I will share some pictures and maybe, just maybe you too will be inspired.

Though I'm not personally into scrapping, this certainly provides more depth than throwing photos into an album. When I was a kid, I remember enjoying looking through my folks' old albums with pics from their childhood and early adulthood. I would have loved reading stuff like this. It would have provoked me to ask personal questions I’m sure wouldn’t be answered. Providing the narrative not only keeps memories alive for you since it sparks a deeper recollection of your life at that time (all the many back stories, etc) but I am sure your children will be asking questions they would never of asked if they only had the photo to see. Brace yourself.
Elise has a really good sense of design which makes scrapbooking look much cooler. Teddy bears must be eradicated.
Glad this has been productive therapy. I’m still thinking about you guys a lot but with the progress Robbo has been making I’m sure he won’t be waiting long for offers.
I chose those pages specifically because most people do know the story of my Prom and how Robbie and I met. I just really loved the way they turned out too. Someone made the comment to Robbie that he looked like he was 10 years old in the pictures.
