I found the silver lining in some BBQ chicken...
Today Robbie had a lunch meeting with his former boss and a "mini" interview with someone at Hallmark. He has posted resumes for three other jobs as well today and is making strides on his portfolio. I am proud of what he is accomplishing despite still being pretty disappointed in yesterday's news. He's smiling again and that makes me so happy. I am sure the meetings today helped to boost his confidence.
The scariest part is that he was only given three weeks of severance pay and I do not work full time. It's just hard not to worry.
Robbie and I have had a lot to talk about since yesterday around 11am and here are some of our conclusions:
Robbie is ready to get paid for the work he does.
Robbie is willing to work someplace other designers might think is "uncool."
Robbie knows a lot of people who are willing to help him and encourage him.
Robbie is good at what he does, has a lot of experience doing it, and has a strong support system.
So, if it took Robbie losing his job to figure all of this out definitively, then, I would have to conclude that it was a good thing.
We feel so fortunate to have the friends and family we do. Thank you for the encouraging words, prayers, and contacts. Afterall, these are the things that really matter in our lives. Dr. Laura, thanks for the wonderful BBQ chicken meal tonight and Josie the cake was the perfect sweet ending to a "family" supper.
What a difference a day makes.
