Friday Review

Wow, I can't believe it is already Friday...where did the week go?
Let's review...

Camping is always fun and tiring! I spent much of the week napping. Ugh.
Last summer I perfected the Nap...so this summer I reasoned with myself that the Nap had been perfected and no longer needed energy spent on improving it. Somehow, however, I managed to improve on perfection this week.

In the afternoons, on really nice days, I have noticed a trend. A man, who plays the bagpipes, slowly marches around the bus stop near my apartment, playing to whomever will listen. He tends to march near the alleyway below my south facing window. Anytime I hear him playing I open the window and enjoy the concert. It is a kind of anomaly, as I can't quite figure out if he works for the bus company or city. He will play a few songs and then quietly slip into this little building near the bus stop. It is really bizarre....but I love it and always get excited when I hear him start to play. There is nothing more poignant than the sounds of a bagpipe and sometimes around 3 in the afternoon it is just what I need to stop, listen and be thankful for people who share their gifts.

It is June 2nd and Robbie still has the mustache, which now has been given the nickname, Red Alert. It is so long that when his mouth is closed the mustache covers both of his lips. He keeps pushing back the date on when he is going to shave it. In the meantime, Robbie has begun his campaign for earning votes in the Mustache May contest. Our good friend Travis, in OKC, graciously made Robbie 50 buttons that say "Vote for Robbie." Apparently, even a few of the other contesters are wearing them. Needless to say, Robbie has enjoyed Mustache May...and I will admit it, for the record, that I have enjoyed watching him be such a girl, looking at himself in the mirror every chance he gets.

One of my part time jobs this summer is watching our good friends, Laura & Jeremy's, baby Emma. I spent a lot of time with her this week and am always amazed at how quickly babies become little people. Watching her has given me a whole new perspective on the trials of motherhood and the challenges of adding new individuals into your life....especially ones that are completely dependent on you! I am so glad I have had the opportunity to have a sneak peek at what it takes to survive bringing home a baby. I am also really glad Laura & Jeremy went first!

Finally, I haven't made it to the gym this week and I am trying not to beat myself up about it. It's amazing to me how much better I feel when I go - and how quickly I can return to feeling crappy about myself when I don't. I haven't weighed b/c I am so afraid the 3 pounds that went away have returned from their vacation. I am just not in the mood to face that. So....I go back on Monday with a smile.

I'm off to work - hope everyone has a great weekend.

There were two ladies playing bagpipes at the beach yesterday which made me think of you.

How's the new job's lesson planning going? Hopefully Emma has been good enough to let you work on that some. I heard she had a good time at poker night.

I hope red alert wins and he gets to stay as long as possible.

Lesson plans are going. I have it narrowed down to units (collage, drawing, painting, & possibly clay) Now all I have to do is come up with specific lessons. I am a little at a loss, but I will figure it all out.

I have also narrowed Emma down into units as well! She likes to play, eat, nap and play some more. We take walks and get baths, eat and sleep. So...depending on where we are in the day depends on how much reading & planning I might get done. She is so sweet Melissa...I hope you are counting down the days until you get to spend some time with her.
