Beary Stitcherrific!

OK...CHEESE on the title - I know. PLEASE forgive me, I just couldn't resist!

Last week, while perusing the library's New Books section, I came across this little gem: Colorful Stitchery: 65 Hot Embroidery Projects to Personalize Your Home, by Kristin Nicholas. I have never really learned specific embroidery stitches but have enjoyed spicing certain projects up with simple embroidery. This book not only taught me how to do specific stitches, it also had some really great projects in it. Even if you have never embroidered, this book is a good one for beginners. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding the illustrations that are suppose to teach you the stitches - but not with this book. The directions were very clear and easy to understand. I made the bear in one evening with some felt, black embroidery thread and two pink buttons. I even filled him with some left over wool fibers I had from a felting class. The bookmark was also made out of felt and I finished the back with some green gingham fabric. I hope some of you get inspired to check out the book and try something new.

Ally would like to eat your bear. You make this stuff look easy. I know my first attempts at this type of stuff would look like poop but I'd probably enjoy the process.

Thanks for reporting on it.

Best,
Kristin Nicholas
