Do you ever feel like there's just not much to talk about? Yeah, me neither. As aimless as this post already feels I'm still compelled to finish it. This can only mean a series of thoughts, updates and ideas will be shared without much direction and purpose. I always know a post will start out this way when I sit down to write without a clever title. Currently there is a blank square next to the word "Title:" up above. Foreshadowing, maybe?
As of this coming Tuesday I will be 26 weeks pregnant. There is a fully formed little boy in my belly who's only job at this point is to fatten up. Apparently, that's now also my job too. So far I've gained approximately 13 pounds with this pregnancy. I should have spent more time before getting pregnant working on losing a couple dozen pounds. But much like the baby blanket I started crocheting for my now nearly 2 year old niece, well, I never really got around to that grand of an accomplishment. Getting pregnant made me fear getting gigantic and making an attempt to gain weight responsibly during this pregnancy has been very important to me. Somehow, despite my best attempt at sabotaging that "responsible weight gain" I've still managed to maintain a healthy attitude and weight. Of course, with time things change...and I can feel the winds of change a comin'. It's amazing how one week you feel like you've got the hang of this pregnancy thing and then *bam* the next week brings on new issues to work through. It's a little like adolescence, complete with acne, hormones and wishing you could drink legally.
Jackson continues to explore his world with his fist and feet. His movements have become much more forceful and if you happen to be staring directly at my belly at the right moment you will see exactly what I am talking about. But, please...don't stare...it's not polite.
Robbie and I have been spending a lot of time together when we are not working planning and talking and rolling our eyes at the teenagers in the mall. We went to Micro Center Friday night and let me tell you something about Micro Center. It is the epicenter of Geekdom, the capital city if you will. Robbie just loves it and could probably spend a number of hours walking the aisles of gadgets, computers, hard drives and what-not, drooling and wishing for a bucket of gold with which to outfit his magical computer heaven. He does the same thing at the Apple store, but fortunately, they have such a minimalistic layout with their products the time spent drooling doesn't seem to be nearly as long and intolerable. As we were making our way back to the Apple laptops we passed by a couple of pre-teen boys playing - with great enthusiasm - Guitar Hero. Oh man, were they into it! Robbie and I chuckled to ourselves as we walked by. Robbie said, "I hope Jackson isn't a total computer nerd when he's that age." To which I replied, "Well, when he is that age and says, 'Hey Dad, it's Friday night - let's go to Micro Center!' we will know for sure." Robbie laughed and agreed he would totally love to go to Micro Center with Jackson on a Friday night. Something tells me this apple won't fall far from the tree.
I've still yet to find a daycare and this is mostly due to the fact that I haven't really been looking. I think that says it all.
Jack's room is still not painted. It's very empty, but not painted. My goal is to have this chore done before my mom comes up for a visit in two weeks. I don't want this trip to be all about painting another room in Robbie and Catie's house again. I have other grand plans, like installing a closet system so Mom and I can start organizing the many adorable outfits and blankets we've already been given. Oh, I can't wait to start organizing it all! Currently, the outfits we've been given that came with hangers are hanging in our clothes closet. Every morning I go in there to get dressed I stop and pull one of Jackson's little outfits down. It's hard to believe he will be wearing these things so soon.
After dinner Friday night (and before Micro Center) we went to Janie and Jack one of my favorite baby clothes boutiques here in the city. A few weeks ago they had a new line of the most precious outfits for baby boys and I kept telling myself to wait to purchase anything until it goes on sale. It's not the most economically sound shopping destination for our middle of the road income if you know what I am saying. But...seriously....the cutest outfits! Anyway, I wanted to show the outfit to Robbie and see what was new to the store. Lo and behold the outfit I wanted was on sale...as well as the little cap and socks! I asked Robbie if he thought this would be a good "going home" outfit for Jack and he asked me why we couldn't just wrap Jack in a blanket? I promptly explained as nicely as I could the incredible importance and significance of the going home outfit for any newborn and that Jack would not be making his way to our home in only a blanket. We are having a Jack, not a Jesus. Robbie seemed to understand and together we made our first purchase for our baby. I cried to the car and Robbie seemed genuinely mystified by the entire experience.
We have been working a lot, daydreaming about this baby and relishing the fact that Spring is getting close. There's a lot in my head these days and a million times a day I wonder to myself and those within earshot if I am truly capable of becoming a mom. My third trimester will be here before we know it and with each day I am one step closer to embarking on the most challenging journey of my life so far: potty training.
Side note: Happy 2nd Birthday Max! You were the baby boy that entered our lives to complete the Watch Our Friends From Afar As They Raise Their Children experiment and now you're 2! How the heck did THAT happen? Needless to say, we love you and will always wish the very best for you and your Mommy and Daddy.
