Daily creative...

I have been in project mode for the last couple of weeks and this is where I spend most of my evenings. I remember Robbie's Granny once took a picture of her sewing table when it was clean and organized. It hangs above her sewing table and I think I understand now why. I figure after Christmas there will be time for a clean art room - but then again, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

I can't post pictures of my projects because many of my readers will be unwrapping what I make...I would hate to spoil the "surprise."

I can however show you a series of paintings I have decided to start. My fellow painting friend Brent and I had a conversation not too long ago about what was next for us and our art. I had been struggling with this mostly because I was out of school and didn't have constant assignments shoved at me to complete. Brent suggested I find a topic and start a series. My initial thought was food....which is typical...in all situations. But maybe you remember the Hot Dog painting last summer? I really loved creating that painting and figured I could continue with what I love, painting and food! I made some sketches and never felt the urge to dive into a canvas. About three weeks ago I read a book, the name of which I promised a friend I would never mention, and it inspired me to start this series.

This painting isn't done, I still have some last minute work to do, primarily on that dad-gum Kit Kat clock. Generally, however, I am pleased with my work. I experimented with some transferring techniques for treatment of the "wall" or background of the painting and incorporated fabric for the dresses. It's the most personally narrative painting I've ever painted and can't wait to start on the others that are patiently waiting to come to color and life in my sketchbook. In another post, once I am done with the painting officially, I will discuss my intentions...until then...

***My new favorite blog Ann Kroeker recently introduced me to Mental Tesserae...my newest favorite blog. From what I've gathered Mental is an art history professor and Mommy to four. Check out her profile, her movie list is one I can completely identify with. I think I have found the inspiration I have so desperately needed. I struggle daily with the decision to start our family and maintain my love for art and education. Daily. I worry that if I am enrolled in Diaper 101 there won't be enough left of myself to finish El Greco to Goya 448. I am truly excited to read about her daily life as a mother and the way she incorporates the story of her life with the history of art.***

The painting is really good. I saw it in person. That's what happens when you give your key away. Hope you guys make it home safe and sound.
