Cause I don't shine if you don't shine...

Yesterday was your birthday.

We ate at your favorite deli the Bronx in Westport. You had your favorite sandwich and made fun of me because I insisted we bring the camera in so we could take pictures of our food. We talked about how we should have remembered to bring a Sharpie with us so we could sign the wall commemorating your 33rd birthday on 7-7-07.

We shopped at various places around the city and stopped at one really expensive estate sale. The Apple store in the Plaza was busy showcasing the new iPhone and one of the highlights of your day was when you were informed that you could actually make a call on one. So, of course, you called your brother and wished him a Happy Birthday.

The Upper Crust had only one cherry pie left so we bought it and a key lime. You wanted pie from your favorite pie shop instead of cake. Great choice. Dinner was had with nearly all of our friends here in KC at the Hendrick's home. Laura and Jeremy pampered you with some mighty fine steaks, some of your favorite beer and the Ultimate Fighter Championship on the big screen. We sang "Happy Birthday" and ate your pie on Transformers plates. You sat with your buddies and shared some of the crazier stories from 'back in the day' when you and your brother were running wild in the streets of OKC. I know you wished Billy could have shared the day with you.

Time moves quickly. Birthdays for us are a way of taking the time to celebrate the fleeting nature of our lives. We eat a bit heartier and laugh a bit louder on our birthdays. We spend time with people we love and who love us. Usually, a moment occurs when all those people actually sings for us....and everyone usually sings, happily, which I find remarkable.

Selfishly I love celebrating your birthday because I simply can not imagine my life without you. It was a lovely day Robbie. I hope for so many more to come.
