Fun on the 4th...

Our fabulously, baby having friends, Lane and Laura threw their first July 4th shindig in their new home yesterday and I have the pictures to prove it. Lane grillmastered his way through the evening preparing delish hotdogs and hamburgers, the true July 4th staples. Everyone who came brought a little something else to make the night a fun one. Jeremy had an itching to play a serious game of Bocci Ball and thank goodness Target was still open and close to the Nelson's house or the Bocci Ball itch would have never been scratched.

The group, interestingly enough, was made up of OKC transplants. Out of everyone who came to the party, only two people were not from Oklahoma - friend and fellow teacher, Heather and her little girl Grace. Robbie and I have been very fortunate to have made friends with a bunch of people who can appreciate the beauty of Taco Bueno, Ted's Escondito, and the genius of OKC weather men. Heather is learning to find the beauty in having friends from Oklahoma. Except for those of us who are die hard Sooner fans - and then she will only tolerate. : )

Emma celebrated her first July 4th and the noise of the fireworks didn't seem to bother her at all. And that is saying something since the Kansas City metro literally erupts at this time of the year. It seriously sounds like a war zone. Something us Okies still find quite exciting and perplexing all at the same time. Of course, this was proved even more true when Lane, in proper Oklahoma fashion, pulled out the sprinkler set and watered the lawn for a few minutes just in case of fire from the fireworks, despite a heavy rain the night before. : ) I guess years of suffering from extreme dry-spells and high wind makes you more cautious with fire.

Needless to say, Lane and Robbie were in blowing up stuff heaven. The popper fight had to be the best though. Laura, Jeremy and Robbie had more fun throwing those little gun powdered poppers at each other. It was pretty hilarious to watch Laura be so ruthless with those little things. **Note the picture of Robbie shrinking with fear and the look of determination in Laura's face**

We played the game Cranium as well and apparently my skills lie most in the technique known as sensi-sketch.....or when you have to draw something with your eyes closed. Hmmm. This could be a problem for me. : )

It was a great night, the weather was gorgeous, and the smell of burning things filled the night air. A big thanks to Lane and Laura for hosting this year's OKC Transplant Fourth of July. Just think, this time next year a little Nelson will be joining in on all of the fun!

Pictures to enjoy:

Sounds and looks like you guys hand lots of fun. I recognize that face of evil on Laura. I'm glad it was pointed at Robbie! Her hair looks cute. So, how much did Robbie cheat at Cranium?

The picture of the guys measuring the bocci balls is classic. It lends credability to my theory of collective socialization. Basically, caucasian males between the ages of 28-38 are all the same person, because we were raised very similarly. Does this remind you of anybody: white; male; age 28-38 y/o; socially aware, yet fiscally conservative (defying both the republican and democrat stereotypes); has faith (unless burned by the church or God - often the two are confused); loves StarWars; Mac over PC; has worn a moustache and goatee for a sig period of time; eclectic taste in music; cannot dance, but semi athletic; loves bocci ball (hence completeing my cyle of thought). Hopefully, I am making my point, but I don't mind sounding like a rambling idiot either...Kyle.

You just described my husband - and all of his friends! I think you are on to something Kyle. But you already knew that right?

Honestly, Wis...I don't think Robbie cheated at all. He had Mrs. Nelson on his team and she is the strictest of teachers and wouldn't have gone for it. I think I found out how to keep him under control! That is, until Brent shows up. : )

You would, I think, be amazed at the amount of fire works going off in the OKC area this year. We were totally surrounded by them in spite of the fact that it was illegal in Moore. My friend Susan said it was the same in South OKC. I think everyone feels extra patriotic this year but hey, it could be that people were thinking we could get blown up by the North Koreans so what the hey!

Petey didn't seem to mind the fireworks at all. We took him to the park and he waited patiently to get to pee on the fire hydrants and street poles on the way back home.

Glad you had a great 4th. Ours was very unusual, quiet. Daniel decided to stay in Edmond with Suba.

Love you both, Mom
